History of Wire Jewellery

My jewellery is created using an ancient technique of wrapping stones and twisting wire to make precious objects. Wire jewellery is not a new idea, it is an ancient skill, in-fact some pieces of jewellery found in the Egyptian pyramids were wire wrapped by highly skilled artisans who lived more than a thousand years before Christ. In more recent times the art of wire wrapping deteriorated perhaps due to the love of all things mass-produced. Wire jewellery takes time and skill and once an original item has been crafted it cannot be cast so that hundreds of pieces are reproduced. Each individual piece is lovingly made by hand. On my website you will see many different creations, some are repeatable but as each one is hand crafted, there may be slight differences to the photo displayed. The original pieces are all 'one offs' and will not be duplicated. Each design is hand crafted to the highest standard using either Stirling Silver or a quality rolled gold known as Gold Fill. Stirling Silver is a wonderful medium to use; its strength and durability are well known and need no further introduction. 14k Gold Fill is not well known in the UK. It is imported from America, as there is nothing like it manufactured here. 14k Gold Fill is not like plate, there is approx 100 times more gold in gold fill, than there is on plated wire. Often referred to as rolled gold, Gold Fill carries a lifetime guarantee. Quite simply if the gold wears off, under normal wear conditions, I will replace it! Gold Fill is a great product and as such I stand by it wholeheartedly.
